Well-Child Care Visits

A well child care visit provides the opportunity for a thorough discussion regarding your child’s development, diet and discipline – both present and anticipated. Anticipatory guidance, preventative care including appropriate vaccinations, laboratory screenings and safety pointers helps diminish those unforeseen “potholes” in the Road to a Healthy Life. This is a parent’s best opportunity to answer and alleviate concerns as well as further develop the team relationship of parent, child, and health-care provider.

In order to have available time slots for ill visits, well child care visits per physician are limited: Plan early, schedule in advance, allow for flexibility.

We recommend the American Academy of Pediatrics preventative health screen schedule as well as the recommended immunization guidelines. Detailed information is included in our website.

AAP Recommended Schedule of Well-Child Care Visits

At The Pediatric Clinic, we follow the general guidelines set by the American Academy of Pediatrics. Depending on your child’s growth and development, as well your concerns and experience, additional or fewer appointments may be suggested by your pediatrician. Visits can include physical measurements, patient history, sensory screenings, behavioral assessments, and planned procedures (immunizations, screenings and other tests) at the following suggested intervals:

  • 3 to 5 days
  • 1 month
  • 2 months*
  • 4 months*
  • 6 months*
  • 9 months
  • 12 months*
  • 15 months
  • 18 months* with autism screening**
  • 24 months*
  • 30 months
  • 3 years
  • 4 years*
  • And once every year thereafter for an annual health supervision visit that includes a physical exam as well as a developmental, behavioral, and learning assessment.

Patients on chronic medications also require yearly examinations and our patients who are prescribed medications for ADHD, require a physical every six months.

*Routine immunizations are to be administered – see our immunization section on this web site for more information as well as our recommended medication dosages. Click here to view our Medication Dosing Chart (PDF).

**All children at 18 months old will be screened for autism using the “M-CHAT.” You may download the questionnaire (PDF) from this website and complete prior to your visit (strongly advised if you will not be present at your child’s visit). This developing screening is an important tool that we recommend for all 18 month visits, however it may not be covered by your insurance policy.
